Kindergarten Sunflowers

I always start off my year with many sunflower art lessons. Here are some finished artwork from my 2014-2015 K2 class. Love these big 12" x 18" crayon resist sunflowers!

Here are some beautiful sunflowers created by my new batch of kindergarten students.

Owls & Fireflies

Do you remember the book, Sam and the Firefly? Well, it's an oldie for sure...

It was one of my favorite books as a child. The pictures were so much fun in my eyes. I loved how the story took place at night and how the illustrator used dark pages with bright yellow to show the glow of the moon, eyes, and fire fly. I remember my grandmother reading it to me. I came aross it and decided to share it with my kinders. Then, we did a fun crayon resist project, drawing owls and fire flies and then painting over it with a cool glowy, nighttime, green watercolor paint. 

I think they are adorable, and love the bright yellow moons, owl eyes,  and fire fly bottoms!

I know school has been over for a bit, but I just came across these pictures on my computer and decided to share.

I hope all my fellow art teachers are enjoying (or enjoyed, if you are back already) their summer. I have one month left! Looking forward to hearing about all your fabulous lessons and hope to be sharing more of mine as I look to the fall.

"Here I Am!" by Kindergarten

     How cute are these little faces? They are just the sweetest kiddos!!! They had so much fun creating these portraits. First they drew their faces and then traced over the lines with sharpies. Then they used crayons to color their faces. When they finished, they glued foam shapes around their faces and painted in any remaining areas with water color paints.
     I like the use of different materials on this project. The combinations of different mediums adds a lot of visual interest to the artwork.

"Nutcrackers" by Kindergarten

Well, these are just the best kindergarten nutcrackers ever! I'm so impressed with the final pictures. They did such a great job. I love how they are all unique, even though they all followed the same set of directions. I, also, love how some went for traditional red, while others used their favorite colors. Each one has its own little personality. When I first showed them my picture, they all yelled that they would never be able to draw a nutcracker like that! Well, they were very proud of themselves when they realized that they could draw one and draw it quite well. Great job, Kindergarten!

"Turkey Art" by Various Grades

During the weeks just before Thanksgiving, several classes spent some time creating different types of turkey art. They are all different, and all beautiful!
Here is some of their work...
